Adiponectin

Fat cells, Adipocytes, produce Adiponectin (ADIPO), a protein hormone. It may cause the development of diabetes and heart disease in the African American women. The researchers have found link between the lower levels of Adiponectin with higher insulin level.

Researcher Trudy Gaillard, PhD program director, Prevention of Diabetes in African Americans Program, and his associates has concluded the study that established the link between Adiponectin and diabetes and heart disease.

ADIPO controls the metabolism of lipids and glucose and stimulates the body response to insulin.

Low levels of adiponectin are found in obese people and the people at a increased risk of heart attack. ADIPO has also some established link with glucose intolerance and high insulin levels.
