Chewing gum on the way, to treat diabetes

Canadian drug delivery firm Generex, in the partnership with Danish medicinal chewing gum specialists Fertin Pharma, is on the way to develop a medicinal chewing gum to treat Type 2 diabetes and obesity soon. Small Canadian drug delivery firm Generex recently has already launched the world’s first non-injectable insulin in Ecuador. It is in the form of an oral insulin spray. The new medicinal chewing gum is using the same technology. The new chewing gum will deliver metformin into the body through the buccal mucosa (the inner lining of the mouth). Metformin is used for Type 2 diabetes treatment for some times. It is also used to restrict the diabetes in obese people and in the treatment of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (liver disease). Metformin gum will soon get in to the phase II clinical trials. pic-gettyimage
