Combination treatment reverses diabetes in mice

A vaccine and an immunity-altering drug can reverse diabetes in mice. This combination therapy was applied and given a positive result in about half of the mice treated. After eight weeks of this combination treatment, 50% of mice had blood sugar levels of normal mice. This treatment reversed the symptoms in about 55% of the rodents on the mice with hereditary diabetes. Jeffrey Bluestone, one of the researchers at the University of California, said that the research will extend to humans also. He hopes to make clinical trials on the way in coming year.
