The University of Michigan holds a medical program on 24th April 24, 2006. It is providing diabetes medicines free to insured employees and their families who need the drugs. The program is covering up 2,000 people. Dr. William Herman, director of the Michigan Diabetes Research and Training Center at the University of Michigan who is also the medical director of the university’s health maintenance organization. said; This effort will help to confront the threat that diabetes poses. There is no charge for certain generic drugs. It controls the blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol. The project is expected to cost the university about $800,000. If the project became successful, it could be made as permanent program. Further it will extend to other chronic conditions.
