Diabetes threat more horrific than feared: Study

Warning from the American Diabetes Association (ADA) stating that the threat of diabetes is far greater than feared, is really a bolt from the blue. First let’s see what ADA remarks about this threat:- The number of middle-aged patients with type 2 diabetes has doubled over the past three decades. This hike has mainly been attributed to hike in obesity rate. Two-third of adult Americans are obese or overweight. The world can now expect many more people to succumb to this chronic disease than originally anticipated. These remarks or assumptions are really a major concussion to the dream of a healthy world. Further, the revelation by the World Health Organization (WHO) that the number of people with diabetes has climbed from 30 million in 1985 to 171 million in 2000 delineates a very gloomy picture of world’s health. The grimness of the problem can easily be estimated from the fact that from the year 1995 to 2005 there has been a confounding hike of 69 per cent in diabetes cases. Report by American Diabetes Association also points out that rise in obesity is one of the major causes that are hindering our way to achieve final target, which is labefaction of diabetes. It means; in order to bridle fast galloping diabetes we shall have to hamshackle obesity first. Moreover, any method adopted to fight diabetes is bound to end in smoke if we fail to kindle awareness among people because these are only and only people who can turn the dream of healthy world into a reality.
