DNA of dogs may provide a model to restrict the diseases such as multiple sclerosis and diabetes in humans. The researchers at Melbourne are looking to find out the genetic cause of a common pet disease too. The Canine Research Foundation has funded the research. Dr Steven Holloway from the University of Melbourne said that he is looking at diseases of the immune system, which could have a genetic cause. The researchers are using molecular biology to find out the genetic components of affected dogs. The genetic factors are responsible for creating immunity. Then they will look to find the DNA sequences to determine the specific patterns responsible some diseases.
