A gene encoding for cytokine may prevent to development the onset of hyperglycemia. Cytokine, a protein, stimulates and obstructs the creation and function of the immune cells from making insulin-producing cells.
Researchers from the University of Pittsburgh and Pennsylvania have done an experiment on mice and they successfully prevent mice to develop hyperglycemia. It was presented at the American Society of Gene Therapy Annual Meeting.
The method is named as an adeno-associated virus. The literal method is still under examination. It is now possible to get analysis of the effect of different genes on the progression of type 1 diabetes by insert genes into beta cells in a living organism.
