The international journal, Diabetic Medicine, says that type 2 diabetics may achieve the targeted blood sugar levels. It may be done with the help of insulin glargine. It is once-daily, basal, long-acting insulin that adds to therapy.
The INSIGHT study (Implementing New Strategies with Insulin Glargine for Hyperglycemia Therapy) has revealed that diabetics using insulin glargine conveyed proper satisfaction with the treatment.
Dr. Hertzel Gerstein, lead investigator of the INSIGHT Study, professor of medicine and director of endocrinology and metabolism at McMaster University said that insulin glargine provides safe and quick gain of long-term control of blood glucose levels.
Patients, who participated in the INSIGHT study, had the A1C (target glycemic level) above the recommended level, what the Canadian Diabetes Association established. By the time, insulin glargine was added to the treatment; patients in the INSIGHT study were showed the quick and safe maintenance of lower and steady blood glucose levels.
