Shock wave treatment for pulverise kidney stones breaks the stones into tiny particles considerably enhance the risk for diabetes and high blood pressure in later life of the patients. The shock waves pass through pancreas where it damages the cells, which produces insulin. The previous studies did not find any link between shockwaves and the chance of diabetes. The Mayo Clinic published the study that revealed that patients who undergone the lithotripsy treatment may at four times risk to develop diabetes. They are at fifty percent more risk to develop high blood pressure in comparison with the people treated by other methods. The risk for diabetes may co-relate with the number of shocks given during treatment while, the risk to develop hypertension cannot relate with the numbers of shock waves.
