The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) and the National Collaborating Centre for Chronic Conditions in association with the British Hypertension Society have launched some important guidelines for NHS to control high blood pressure. The beta-blockers will not be prescribed as first-line therapy for high blood pressure. It performed less well than other drugs specially in the older people. The evidences show that numerous used beta-blockers carried also the risk of increasing type 2 diabetes. The research confirmed that newer drugs for high blood pressure reduce the risk of heart attacks by fifty percent if compared with previous treatments.
