Perhaps very soon patients with type 2 diabetes would be able to have better treatment as researchers claim that they have mapped out the most important gene called SLC30A8, involved in regulating insulin secretion and hence plays a crucial role in keeping people at higher risk of type 2 diabetes. Researchers are quite confident that with this finding they would be able to able to impart type 2 diabetics with better treatment. Uncovering the importance of this study Researcher, Professor Philippe Froguel, from Imperial College London, said: Our new findings mean that we can create a good genetic test to predict people’s risk of developing this type of diabetes. If we can tell someone that their genetics mean they are predisposed towards type 2 diabetes, they will be much more motivated to change things such as their diet to reduce their chances of developing the disorder. We can also use what we know about the specific genetic mutations associated with type 2 diabetes to develop better treatments. It can be said that the hopes leaping out of this study really promise of better treatment for patients with type 2 diabetes. Still, talking too much on it would not be fair since these findings have sprung out as preliminary conclusions. Via: BBC
