By combining of two approaches the type I diabetes is being cured in mice. Researchers are saying that the combination is possible to work even better. Human studies are awaiting the regulatory approval for this research. The combination approach doubled the effectiveness in laboratory mice with fewer side effects. The diabetes didn’t reoccur in the lifespan of the mice whose diabetes was reversed. The combination of the two may endow with a window that would allow both to function in this case. By using a peptide derived from human proinsulin II and mouse antibodies to CD3, the researchers tested the combination in two murine models of diabetes. It was NOD mice and RIP-LCMV mice. They found that at least half of the treated mice recovered from their diabetes. The increased efficiency is an important finding. This combination approach is significant evaluating in human type 1 diabetes. It should increase both the overall efficacy of the treatment and the duration of the beneficial effect.
