According to a new research, ten percent of unborn babies get the diabetes infection through their mothers. A two-day-old baby was suffering the effect of gestational diabetes that was developed in her mother at the time of pregnancy. The baby was gaining weight because of increasing sugar level.
Gestational diabetes may cause stillbirth, weak bones, defected nerves and hypo-glycaemia. It can also put children at higher risk of developing diabetes as adults. Early detection is the sole way to deal with the disease. Maternal blood test screening helps to detect this but not happens regularly in the maternity hospitals.
